John Stanley Brockington was an American professional football player best known for becoming the first N.F.L. running back to gain more than 1,000 yards in each of his first three seasons. Brockington was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the first round of the 1971 NFL Draft and went on to have a successful career as a running back. Brockington quickly established himself as one of the NFL's top runners, earning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors in 1971. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his first three seasons, and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1971, 1972, and 1973. After six seasons with the Packers, Brockington was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs in 1977, and then to the Los Angeles Rams in 1978. He retired from the NFL after the 1979 season, having rushed for over 7,000 yards and scored 44 touchdowns in his career. He and his wife created the John Brockington Foundation after he got a kidney from his wife. The foundation provide free screenings and educational material to those who require it, and also provide food vouchers for people on dialysis.
