After graduating Howard worked on Wall street for a few years before quitting to pursue a career in writing which is something he loved to do. Howard's career in writing began as a freelance writer and on a number of television shows like True Colors. He also wrote award winning plays like Tinseltown Trilogy. He wrote the screenplay for boxer Muhammad Ali's biographical film tittled Ali. His fame in Hollywood came after he wrote the script for Remember the Titans which was a box-office hit grossing over 100million dollars in the U.S alone. Subsequently after he continued to write scripts until 2019. He won several awards during his lifetime including the Black Reel Award in 2001.
