Gregory Dale Bear was an American writer and illustrator best known for science fiction. He served on the Board of Advisors for the Museum of Science Fiction, and he was also one of the five co-founders of the San Diego Comic-Con. He won various awards including the Nebula Award, Hugo Award, Endeavour Award, Hayakawa Award, and the Inkpot Award.
His most recent work was the 2021 novel, The Unfinished Land. Bear wrote over 50 books in total. Bear died at the age of 71 from multiple strokes caused by clots that had been hiding in a false lumen. He was withdrawn from life support two days after he was seen to recovering.
