Brian David Sicknick, an officer of the United States Capitol Police died from injuries sustained while physically engaging with pro-Trump rioters who descended on the U.S. Capitol on 6 January.

Brain was born in New Jersey to Charles and Gladys Sicknick. He grew up as the youngest of three sons in South River, New Jersey and from 1981 to 1983, he attended the Calico Cat Preschool of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in South River and later studied Electronics at East Brunswick Technical High School. He has always loved to work as a police officer and he passionately aspired as he graduated from the high school in 1997. Although, securing a job as a police officer didn’t come easy but the passionate, determined Brain joined the New Jersey Air National Guard in 1997 "as a means to that end" and he served on the 108th Wing at Joint Base McGuire–Dix–Lakehurst, as a leader with the security force squadron and fire team member. In 1998, he expressed his skepticism towards America's soft stance against Saddam Hussein in a letter he wrote to Home News Tribune, his local newspaper. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice degree from the University of Phoenix On December 31, 2013.
In 1999, Brain was deployed to support Operation Southern watch in Saudi Arabia and in 2003, he was deployed to Kyrgyzstan to support Operation Enduring Freedom. Brain later criticized the government strategy in the Iraq war and the U.S. motivations for the War in Afghanistan. He wrote again to Home News Tribune, In 2003, noting a decline in morale among troops and he was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant in the same year. Brain worked as a school custodian in Cranbury, New Jersey and later moved to Springfield, Virginia, where he joined the United States Capitol Police in July 2008. One of Brian’s first assignment was during the Barack Obama’s first inauguration.
On January 6, 2021, it was unclear where Mr. Sicknick’s encounter the rioters when he was serving as a first responder but a video and photos posted by local reporter showed a man. Two men were charged with assaulting Sicknick with a deadly weapon, but murder charges have not been filed at the time of writing.
