Stuart Hodes was an American dancer, choreographer, dance teacher, dance administrator and author best known for dancing with Martha Graham in the 1940s and ’50s,on Broadway, on TV, and film. Hodes attended Brooklyn College, then entered the army in 1943, served in the Army Air Corps as a B-17 pilot. After his service Hodes began taking modern dancing classes at the Martha Graham School, he was asked to join Graham's troupe in 1946. During this time Hodes taught and danced on Broadway, TV, and night clubs to earn an extra income. He danced in productions like The Wild Horse in Annie Get Your Gun, swam and also Buick Circus Show and others. Hodes opened Dancer's Studio in 1952, he choreographed for the San Francisco Ballet, Santa Fe Opera, St. Louis Municipal Opera, Boston Ballet, Dallas Ballet just to mention a few. He left the Graham troupe in 1958, but continued teaching at the Graham School, NYC's High School of Performing Arts, The New School, New York University, Manhattan Community College and as guest in many American colleges. In 1968, he founded his own young-audience troupe, The Ballet Team, which toured nationally. On top of this Hodes was a writer, he was awarded with a Lifetime Achievement Award in November 2019.
