Joseph Anthony Pepitone was an American professional baseball first baseman and outfielder who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees, Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs, and Atlanta Braves, best known for winning three Gold Gloves at first base, played in two World Series for the Yankees and was a three-time MLB All-Star. Pepitone began in 1958 when he was signed to the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent. He played four seasons in the minor league before moving to the major leagues in 1962 playing for the Yankees up until 1969. He then moved to the Houston Astros in 1970 but left that very same year to join the Chicago Cubs which he played for from 1970–1973. He also played for Atlanta Braves in 1973 and Yakult Atoms 1973 which is a Japanese team. After his retirement he wrote his own tell-all baseball memoir, titled Joe, You Coulda Made Us Proud which was relatively successful and served as minor league hitting coach with the Yankees in the 1980s.
