Gerald Joseph Blavat was an American disc jockey and performer who was a major influence in promoting oldies music on the radio and was regarded as the most influential disc jockey in the Delaware Valley.
Blavat was born in South Philadelphia where his career in music began in 1961 when he was only 20 years old at WCAU , a career that would last until his death. Blavat was born in South Philadelphia where his career in music began in 1961 when he was only 20 years old at WCAU , a career that would last until his death. By 1963, his show had grown and was syndicated in Atlantic City, Trenton, Pottstown, Wilmington and Allentown. He also hosted and produced a television show called The Discophonic Scene which was a dance show for all from 1965 to 1967. It is during this time that he got the nicknames "The Geator with the Heater" and "The Big Boss with the Hot Sauce". Blavat also made other television appearances on shows like The Mod Squad, The Monkees, The Tonight Show, and The Joey Bishop Show. In 1972 he became a nightclub owner which he named Memories. In 2011, Blavat published an autobiography tittled, You Only Rock Once: My Life In Music. Blavat was inducted into the Philadelphia Music Alliance's Hall of Fame in 1998 and was also included in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
