She was regarded as one of the original supermodels and a must in photographs and on the catwalk.
Patitz was born in Hamburg, West Germany and moved with her family to Skanör when she was young. At 17 in 1983 Patitz got her first modelling job after she entered an Elite Model Contest in Stockholm and finished third. The prize was a trip to Paris and a limited-time contract which saw her major break cover coming in 1985 where she modelled for the cover of British Vogue. She began to work with photographer Peter Lindbergh in 1985. Patitz went on to achieve international fame appearing on the French, American, Italian and British editions of Vogue. She also worked with Gilles Bensimon at Elle and Francesco Scavullo at Cosmopolitan. In 2009, Vanity Fair called Patitz a catwalk queen of the 1990s and in 2020, Marie Claire magazine celebrated Patitz as one of the top supermodels who ruled the runway in the 1990s. Patitz also appeared in several commercials and movies like Rising Sun, The Single Guy and Restraining Order.
