Bernard Kalb was an American journalist, moderator, media critic, lecturer, and author with a career that spanned over three decades best known for covering international affairs at at CBS News, NBC News, and The New York Times. He was best known for turning in his resignation as State Department Spokesman to protest a government disinformation campaign in 1986. Kalb was born in New York City and attended City of New York College and Harvard University for his bachelor's and master's degree respectively. Kalb spent almost half of his career abroad in Hong Kong, Paris and Indonesia. In 1984 he was appointed Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs and spokesman for the U.S. State Department, a post he quit two years later in protest. Kalb wrote a biography titled Kissinger with his brother Marvin Kalb, who is also a journalist. He won numerous awards during his career including the Overseas Press Club Award for a 1968 documentary on the Vietcong.
