Her most celebrated work is her 1983 novel The Life and Loves of a She-Devil. Weldon was born in Franklin Birkinshaw, Birmingham, England to a family of literary authors. Her maternal grandfather, uncle and mother, Edgar Jepson, Selwyn Jepson and Margret Jepson respectively wrote novels. She studied Psychology and Economics at the University of St Andrews and moved to London in 1952 after getting her master's. Weldon's writing career began in the early 1960s where she began writing radio plays and scripts for television. in 1967 she published her first novel The Fat Woman's Joke. She wrote books that featured women who were overweight and plain as heroins, so as to give a voice to women who are often overlooked or not featured in the media. She won numerous awards through out her career including the Booker Prize Best Novel nominee.
