Willis Reed Jr. was an American professional basketball player, coach, and general manager best known for being an NBA Hall of Fame inductee who led the Knicks to two NBA titles. Reed was picked in the 1964 NBA draft by the New York Knicks the only team he played for until he retired. His career was cut short by injuries, and he retired after the 1973–74 season. After he retired he became a coach for the Knicks, the New Jersey Nets and the New Orleans Hornets. Reed won numerous awards and tittles during his career like the N.B.A.’s Most Valuable Player Award for the 1969-70 season, M.V.P. of the championship series. He also won the Rookie of the Year Award in 1965, was voted an All-Star seven times and won another N.B.A. title. In 1996, he was voted one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History and was again honored as one of the league's greatest players of all-time by being named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021.
