Kim Maiden Simmonds was a Welsh rock singer and musician known for being the founder, guitarist and songwriter for the band Savoy Brown. Whilst growing up Simmonds was drawn to the early rock ‘n’ roll albums owned by his older brother who would also take him to watch all the rock ‘n’ roll movies. When he was 10, his family moved to London and it was there that his brother exposed him to the world of jazz by taking him to various jazz stores. At 13 Simmonds bought his first guitar and soon after met John O’Leary and formed Savoy Brown. In 1965 Simmonds dropped out of school to pursue music full time with the band, they started getting gigs at the Nags Head and performing with Cream. They released their first album in 1967 called Shake Down. The band went to have relative success releasing more than 30 albums.
