Julian Keith Levene was an English musician who was a founding member of both the Clash and Public Image Ltd. His first work was when he was fifteen working as a roadie for Yes on their Close to the Edge tour. He later became a founding member of the Flowers of Romance, and notably the Clash in 1976. Levene went on to co-find the Public Image Ltd with John Lydon, playing on Travis Bean metal-neck guitar. He also wrote, performed, and produced PiL’s early albums like First Issue, Metal Box and Flowers of Romance. Levene was born in London, being influenced by progressive rock his music taste changed when he met fellow Clash founder Mick Jones.
Levene later left the band due to creativeness issues on their fourth album, although he was no longer with the band, he continued to work for other brands that required his services. He was married to Lori Montana with whom he had two children and later Shelly da Cunha his second wife. Levene died oat the age of 65 after having complications of liver cancer at his home in Norfolk.
