Michael Pertschuk was an American attorney and advocate for consumer protection and public health. As a congressional staffer and chairman of the Federal Trade Commission from 1977 to 1984, he helped usher into law a raft of consumer protections. The passing of the automobile and product safety laws and the Magnuson- Moss Warranty Act were also part of his doing. He was awarded the career service award in 2003, from the American Cancer Society and the Champion award from Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids in 2013. Pertschuk was born in London, England and got his Bachelor of Arts from Yale University in 1954 and was a member of the Manuscript society. He received his law degree from Yale Law School in 1959.
