Frank Joseph Thomas was an American outfielder and third baseman in Major League Baseball (MLB) who played for seven National League (NL) teams from 1951 to 1966 and famous for his 34 home runs and 94 runs batted in his first season with the Mets, a team record that stood for 13 years. Thomas was born in Pittsburgh, he attended high school at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Secondary School. In 1947 Thomas signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates as an amateur free agent, it wasn't until 1951 that he began playing in the major league with the Pirates. He became a a three-time All-Star playing for them and in 1958 he finished fourth in the voting for Most Valuable Player. In 1959 Thomas was traded to the Redlegs who inturn traded him to the Chicago Cubs following an injury on his hand. In 1961 he was traded again for the Milwaukee Braves. In 1965 Thomas was involved in a fight a with Richie Allen, subsequently he was purchased by the Houston Astros from the Phillies. He retired in 1966.
