She then attended Memphis State College, where she became interested in acting and modeling. It was there that she got discovered by 20th Century Fox whilst performing in a college production called Bus Stop. In 1959 she made her debut film Say One for Me, a role she won a Golden Globe for. She was later signed to Paramount and went on to appear in numerous films and television series. She also modelled for Playboy multiple times and was Playmate of the Month in January 1960, she also directed two films, The American Heroine and The Ranch. Stevens was ranked No. 27 in the 1968 Playbook magazine’s list of the 100 Sexiest Stars of the 20th Century.
