Mark Stewart was an English singer and founding member of The Pop Group best known for being the pioneer of post-punk and industrial hip-hop. He formed the Pop Group in 1976 along with the band’s original members: John Waddington the guitarist, Simon Underwood the bass player, Gareth Sager guitar and saxophone player and Bruce Smith the drummer. The band’s first album, “Y,” which was released in 1979 and the band broke up in 1981 not long after the second album’s release. In addition Stewart pursued a solo career where he made several albums under his own name as well as collaborating with artists such as Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. In 2010, he reunited with the Pop Group and released two more albums, “Citizen Zombie” (2015) and “Honeymoon on Mars” (2016). On top of being a singer, Stewart was also involved in conceptual art. He collaborated once again with Rupert Goldsworthy on a show entitled "I AM THE LAW" displayed at Ritter/Zamet gallery in New York and London.
