Irma Consuelo Cielo Serrano nicknamed La Tigresa was an award winning Mexican singer, actress and politician best known for her inimitable vocals in rancheras and corrido music in hits like Cancion De Un Preso and El Amora De La Paloma. In 1962 she signed a singing contract with Columbia Records. The following year she won awards like the Folklore Revelation Trophy and Macuilxóchitl. She then moved into acting with the movie Santo vs. the Zombies, The Extra, Gabino Barrera just to mention a few. She continued appearing in movies until the 1980s. Serrano purchased Virginia Fábregas Theater, remodeled it and named it Teatro Fru Fru. She starred and produced numerous theatre productions. She also ventured into politics and occupied a seat in the Mexican Senate. Serrano was rumored to have had a short-lived romantic affair with Mexican president Gustavo Díaz Ordaz, a rumor she confirmed in her book Calzón Amarrado.
