Charles Raymond White was an American professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons during the 1980s. Charles Raymond White was born in Los Angeles and was raised by his grandmother. He attended San Fernando High School where he ran track and played football. He was recruited to University of Southern California and led the team in rushing in 1977, 1978 and 1979. He was drafted in the NFL by Cleveland Browns in 1980. He was released in 1985 after his drug addiction problems affected his performance. White went on to play for the Los Angeles Rams from 1985 to 1988. His play improved with a league-leading 1,387 yards and 11 touchdowns, which earned him a Pro Bowl selection and the NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award. He retired in 1988 and became a Running backs coach.
