Just Louis Fontaine was a French professional footballer best known for scoring a record of 13 goals at the 1958 World Cup in just six matches a record he held as of 2022 for the most goals in a single edition of the FIFA World Cup. Fontaine's career began at USM Casablanca, where he played from 1950 to 1953 before being recruited by Nice that very same year, scoring 44 goals in three seasons. He then moved to Stade de Reims where he scored 165 goals in 200 matches in the Ligue 1, and won the championship twice, in 1958 and 1960. He had a total of 200 goals in 213 games and he scored 30 goals in 21 games for France. He retired when he was 28 due to a leg fracture in March 1960. After his retirement he coached France’s national team, Luchon, Paris Saint-Germain, Toulouse and the Moroccan national team. Fontaine was chosen as the best French player of the last 50 years by the French Football Federation in 2003.
