Gordon Edward Pinsent was an award winning Canadian actor, writer, director, and singer best known for films like Away From Her, a role that earned him an Academy of Canadian Television and Cinema’s Genie Award for best actor in a leading role. Pinsent's acting career began when he was a teenager acting on stage, also in radio drama and and later moved into television and film. He however had to put his acting career on hold when he joined the Canadian Army, where he served for four years. After his service he started acting on stage at present day Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre in 1957. He went on to appear in many theatrical plays well into the 1960s. His first television appearances were in Scarlett Hill and The Forest Rangers. From there on Pinsent, went on to be a regular face in Canadian television series like the Quentin Durgens, M.P., A Gift to Last, a show he created himself, just to name a few. On top of that he was an author and playwright of several screenplays, including The Rowdyman and John and the Missus. He was also a recipient of numerous awards like the 1997 Earle Grey Award for lifetime achievement in television and Governor General's Performing Arts Award in 2004.
