Kiernan Jarryd Forbes known professionally as AKA, was an award winning South African rapper who rose to fame after releasing Victory Lap a single from his debut studio album, Altar Ego in 2010. Before Forbes was an award winning solo artist he was part of a rap group called Entity alongside his two friends Vice Versa and Greyhound created in 2002 and disbanded in 2006. After the group disbanded Forbes went away to study sound engineering and later co-founded the production collective The I.V League alongside two other people. The I.V League helped to produce music for numerous artists like Khuli Chana, ProKid and JR. In 2010 he released a lead song from his debut album called I Want It All. The full album was released in 2011 and was certified gold winning awards like the Metro FM Award for Best Hip Hop Album and Best Male Artist of the Year at the 2012 South African Music Awards. Forbes continued to flourish in the music industry releasing studio albums which include Levels in 2014, Touch My Blood in 2018, Bhovamania in 2020, and the collaborative album with Anatii, titled Be Careful What You Wish For. Forbes and his friend Tebello Motsoane were shot by a hooded gunmen on 10 February in Durban where he was due to perform for his birthday party.
