During his college days he earned money by making fashion sketches for Dior and Givenchy, and shoe sketches for Charles Jourdan. After graduating in the 1950s he sought work as an architect and worked in that industry for over 10 years. His career in fashion began as a jewelry maker for Givenchy, Dior, and Balenciaga. In 1966 he opened his own fashion house and he created 12 unwearable dresses for his debut made out of metal, paper and plastics. In 1968 he partnered with fragrance company Puig that helped him to market his line of perfumes. His perfumes became a huge success selling all over the world with some of his perfumes like 1 Million is considered to be one of the most popular men's fragrances worldwide.
