Salvatore Leonard Bando was an American third baseman and general manager in Major League Baseball (MLB) well known for being the captain of the Oakland Athletics during the team’s run of three consecutive World Series victories from 1972 to 1974. Bando was born in Cleveland and during his high school years at Warrensville Heights High School, he played baseball, football, basketball, and ran track. He attended Arizona State University, where he played college baseball for the Arizona State Sun Devils winning the 1965 College World Series Championship. Brando was selected in the 1965 MLB draft by The Kansas City Athletics. He played with them up until 1976 where he signed with the Milwaukee Brewers retiring in 1981. At the end of his career, Bando was ranked third in American League. He pursued a career in coaching and was named Milwaukee team's general manager in 1991. Bando was inducted into the Oakland Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022.
