Kathrynne Ann Whitworth was an American professional golfer who was a dominant force in American Women's golf, she won 88 tournaments, something that has not been done by any other player, male or female in golf history. Whitworth was born in Monahas, Texas, the youngest of three children. She attended Odessa College and at 14 Whitworth started playing golf. She won a couple of amateur tournaments before turning pro in 1958. In 1962 she won her first tournament at the Kelly Girl 's Open. She was player of the year 7 times in her career. Whitworth was named Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year in 1965 and 1967. She was also named Golfer of the Decade by Golf Magazine for the years 1968 to 1977. She was inducted inducted into the LPGA Hall of Fame in 1975 and into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1982.
