John Young Brown Jr was an American politician, entrepreneur and businessman best known for transforming Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) into a global brand and served as the 55th governer of Kentucky from 1979 to 1983.

Brown was born in Lexington, Kentucky to a United States Congressman father John Y. Brown Sr. He showed talent for business and selling at an early age, he attended high school at Lafayette High School and played various sports. One summer he spent it selling vacuum cleaners and made over US$1000 and when he was at University of Kentucky for his law degree he sold Encyclopedia Britannica sets making US25000 a year. In 1959 after graduating college, Brown joined his father's law firm, he also served in the United States Army. In 1965 he left his father's firm and started a career in business. He owned three professional basketball teams ,at various times, including the LA Clippers and also invested in other restaurant ventures.
