Danny Kalb was an American blues guitarist and vocalist. As a musician, he formed the New Strangers with ethnomusicologist Sam Charters. He experimented with acoustic and electronic music, forming a band at the age of 15 called the Gay Notes. In 1965 he formed a group called the Blues Project and they recorded three albums which were frequently played at the Café Au Go Go and at Murray the K’s last submarine race watching. Kalb kept recording and forming bands throughout his career and in the 21st century he performed more solo acoustic gigs, played acoustic and electric music with the Danny Kalb Trio. The Trio recorded in 2008 I’m Gonna Live the Life I Sing About and it received critical acclaim in the blues media. His health issues later became a problem and making him unable to play, Kalb died at the age of 80 due to cancer.
