Frederick Hickman was an American journalist sports broadcaster with the CNN, ESPN, TBS and YES Network. He was one of the first African American to anchor a national cable sports broadcast. He received numerous awards for his work throughout his career like the CableACE award in 1989 and 1993 and the New York Sports Emmy Award winner in 2004.

Hickman was born in Springfield, Illinois. He attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids where he was the program and music director of the campus radio until he graduated in 1978 with a bachelor's degree in Sociology. His career as a sports broadcaster began soon after graduating college working at WFMB-AM radio station, he soon moved to WICS-TV where he was an anchor and sports director for two years.
In 1980, Hickman joined TBS as part of the sports department for the CNN, subsequently Hickman and Nick Charles became hosts of CNN Sports Tonight. He left CNN in 2001, since then he worked at numerous television networks and in 2010 he started a company called Fred Hickman Communications Inc, it provided broadcast training for retired athletes and coaching staff.
