Joseph Robert Kapp also known as Joe Kapp, was a prominent American football player, coach, and executive best known for playing professionally in the Canadian Football League (CFL) and then in the National Football League (NFL). Professionally he played football for 11 seasons, primarily as a quarterback, for the Minnesota Vikings, Boston Patriots, and Calgary Stampeders. He was the first quarterback in NFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards in a single season, a feat he accomplished in 1961. After his playing career, Kapp went on to coach football at several levels, including as the head coach of his alma mater, the University of California, Berkeley. He also served as the general manager and head coach of the Calgary Stampeders and the president and general manager of the Minnesota Vikings. Throughout his career Kapp won numerous awards and accolades including his induction in Canadian Football Hall of Fame, the BC Sports Hall of Fame, the BC Lions Wall of Fame, the College Football Hall of Fame, and the University of California Athletic Hall of Fame.
