Werner Wilhelm Frankie was a German biologist and a professor of cell and molecular biology at the German Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg. He studied chemistry, biology, and physics at the University of Heidelberg and became a professor at the same university after completion of his doctorate. He researched mostly on molecular characterization of the cytoskeleton in normal and transformed cell. He was also a doping expect. He won the Meyenburg Prize in 1981, the Ernast Jung Prize in 1984, and Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2004.
